Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other activities offered at Ares East Mesa BJJ Academy ("the Academy") involve physical contact, grappling, and live resistance training, and carry an inherent risk of injury, including but not limited to sprains, strains, joint injuries, and in rare cases more serious harm. By participating in any class, open mat, seminar, or event at the Academy, I acknowledge that I understand these risks and voluntarily choose to participate.
2. Release of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Arizona law, I release and agree not to sue the Academy, its owners, coaches, staff, and affiliated individuals from any claims, liabilities, or damages arising from ordinary negligence in connection with my participation in training. This release does not apply to injury caused by intentional misconduct or gross negligence.
3. Medical Treatment Authorization
In the event of an injury during training, I authorize the Academy's staff to arrange or administer reasonable emergency first aid or to contact emergency medical services on my behalf. I understand that I am responsible for any costs associated with medical treatment I receive.
4. Rules and Conduct
I agree to follow the instructions of coaches and staff, to train within my ability level, to communicate with training partners about injuries or limitations before rolling, and to tap early and often rather than risk injury.
5. Minor Participants
If the participant is under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must also sign below. The parent/guardian acknowledges the risks described above on behalf of the minor and confirms they have the legal authority to consent to the minor's participation in training.
